Conclusion of analysing music magazines

Conclusion of analysing music magazines

By doing the task of researching into music magazine covers and analysing the appearance on them I have been able to gather tips and make important notes that will help me improve the structure of my cover page including my font, pictures and colour scheme.

I have learnt that the layout and representation is important as it suits to the target audience you are hoping to buy the magazine, if you have a layout that is basic with bright colours and little text that includes lots of pictures you are targeting a younger audience. Whilst if we are looking at an older audience we will find less pictures, more text and a more basic layout showing maturity and professionalism.

By looking at the appearance of a magazine I have learnt that the key technique is to include content that will relate to the audience individually as much as possible. I have learnt that the front cover of the magazine must include the key stories, these stories normally focus on the most gripping and eye catching in order to intrigue the audience.

The contents page has to be inviting and must grip the audience just as much as the cover did. By reading other stories are in the magazine will only be quickly seen by the contest page so it is vital that pull quotes and direct quotes relate correctly to the magazine cover and the page spread that is on that topic.

When researching into different music magazine covers I discovered that depending on the type of music the style of the magazine would change including:
Font- different fonts for the style of music e.g. classical had a flow to the font and an italic text.
Colour Schemes- Rock punk magazines focussed on the colours of black and red
Pictures- pictures depended on the popularity of the artist e.g. Adele's face covered both of the double page spreads showing authority and popularity.
