Question 7

Question 6

Question 5

Question 4

QUESTION 4 – WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

RESEARCH:

After researching into magazines and there type of audiences I decided that I wanted my audience to target ages 13-26 with both female and male genders. I wanted the magazine to aim at these ages and at both genders because it creates a larger audience for the magazine. When looking at examples of magazines It was clear to see that I had a similar liking to the artists that the magazines were using for pop music and this inspired me to choose what type of artist I wanted  on the cover, even though I targeted an audience of males and females it was clear to see that females were more of a target audience for pop music so this was why I created a male artist for this weeks issue of Top Pops magazine.

COLOUR SCHEME:

When thinking about my colour scheme I was undecided on how I wanted the colour scheme to fit into the magazine in order to make it look successful. When researching into magazines I found that the majority of the magazines used the colour red, the colour is vibrant and stands out and I thought this would be suitable for my magazine but to make it even more successful and presentable I added the colours blue and white to represent the British flag, Also when thinking about my target audience the colour scheme is suitable for both genders so this doesn’t make the magazine more suitable for one gender more than the other.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK:

After publishing my magazine I thought it would be important to get some audience feedback, the reason for this is because readers and purchasers are what makes the magazines successful within the magazine industry.

It was important that when choosing the people I wanted to give feedback to me I chose them equally so I chose 5 males and 5 females all different ages, by doing this allowed me to see how different audiences rated my Top Pops magazine.
RESULTS:
Front cover - 80% liked it 20% didn't like it
Double page spread - 40% liked it 60% didn't like it
Contents Page - 50% liked it 50% didn't like it
These results are positive and I am happy with them however I think that my contents page and double page spread could of been adapted more and planned out more to suit the target audience more.

Question 3

Question 2

Question 1

Front cover

For my front cover I have chosen to use a bold colour scheme of red, white and blue. The reason for this is because my pop artist is British and these colours are what symbolise and show the main key aspects of the British flag. To show these colours I have consistently used them on my front cover in the title, subsidiary text and also in the pug. The reason I have consistently used these colours is also because it is then recognisable to the public eye and is what makes that magazine individual and different to others. At the very top of the front cover is a cover line, the cover lines show the aspects of social media that the readers can use to help get more involved with the magazine. I thought it was important to include this on my magazine cover because social media is something that helps to promote and spread the message about magazines, to make this stand out I used a black bar and used a bold white text, this helped to make the social media bolder and stand out. The majority of magazines don’t include social media on their magazines however the majority include a website that readers can go to so a website is also something I included. By including a website on the page also included me thinking about different target audiences, the younger readers may not have social media so a website is another form that they can promote the magazine off. Below the cover line is the title, I wanted to make the title bold and stand out from the rest of the text on the page. The heading consists of the colour scheme of red white and blue symbolising the British flag. My logo is basic with bold font to make it stand out from the rest of the text on the page. I decided to make the logo for my magazine more basic as this also allows it to be more recognisable to the readers on the front of the magazine cover, It was also important that I made it basic because this logo would also have to be situated on the other two pages that I have designed. For the ‘O’ on top and the pop I had chosen to use record players because they are creating the round shape and also a record player is associated with music. By using a record player also tells the audience that the magazine isn’t just about up to date pop music but also focusses on the vintage side of pop. The header is located at the top of the page so that the audience and readers can tell it’s the name of the magazine. Below the header is the subheading which includes the motto ‘from local to worldwide’ the reason I have placed it underneath the header is because I didn’t want it to be mistaken for a cover line. I have used bold black font to make it stand out however I have used a smaller text size to make sure that it is not mistaken for the header. When coming up with a subheading it was important that I related the motto to the type of magazine I was creating, I think that the motto I chose gives an inspiration lesson because it’s saying that you can come from any background, ethnicity, religion and gender and live the dream because no one is going to stop you. The cell lines on the front cover consist of the colours black, blue, white and red. The reason I have kept these colours consistent is to still associate them with the theme of the British flag. After researching into music magazines and researching into text and fonts that are included on front covers I found that more of the eye catching stories were put in a bold font because it attracts the audience into learning more. The words WOW and OMG are slang words too which also make it more of a valuable and suitable magazine for the youths as they use these words when they are expressing something impressive and some shocking news this is the aim that we want the readers to feel when they are reading these stories. The main image consists of a male model who is a pop artist. I chose a male model as I felt it suited to the type of pop music my magazine was covering. When researching into pop music magazines solo artists such as Ed Sheeran and Olly Murs were regulars and I thought that it would be best to suit my magazines based around characters like themselves. The reason that I dressed the model in a tie and shirt is because after researching what pop artists wear when celebrating success or going to an interview many of them dressed in suits. When taking the photograph of the male model I had to consider the amount of space I had on the page and also how I wanted the male to look on the page and how I wanted him to pose. I took the image as a medium close up because I wanted the artist to be close to the camera as if he’s that close to the fans and their hearts, also when researching into music magazines the majority of the artists were looking into the camera, this could make the readers feel more attracted to the magazine and that they have a close connection with him. I decided to leave the image in full colour because I think that the magazine is all about bright colours and if I dimmed the colour or made it black and white it would have ruined that effect that I wanted to create. At the bottom of the page included a bar code, price and issue number. Every magazine that I looked at included these and in order to make a successful magazine I thought it was important that I included them. At the very bottom of the page was a bottom line, this consisted of the magazine telling the readers what the magazine is all about, this was ‘News, gossip and facts’. I believe that my magazine went well. When comparing my final music magazine cover to my draft I think that I completed everything I hoped to include. However when designing the final front cover I had to remove the subsidiary images due to the page looking cluttered. I achieved everything I wanted my magazine cover to look like and am happy with the final piece of work.

Contents Page:

For my contents page I kept the colour scheme consistent with the colours red, white and blue to represent the British flag. At the top left of the contents page is my logo, the reason I have placed the logo on the contents page is because I think it promotes the magazine more and also tells the reader that the page is not advertisement and belongs to the company of Top Pops, the logo however is small because it is not the main heading of that page. In the middle of the top header is the heading ‘Contents’ I used a basic font but put it in bold, the reason I used a basic font was because I wanted it to stand out from the rest of the text within the page. I made the colour of contents black as well because I wanted it to be bold and stand out, in a smaller text size I put the issue number letting the reader know what issue it was, I found this was shown on the majority of music magazine contents pages, I used the same font to let the reader know that it is still associated with the heading of ‘Contents’. Underneath the header is the slogan, again it has the same font as the front cover and is also placed in the same position. I decided to put the slogan on the contents page because sometimes readers remember the slogan more than the title and then associate it with the company. On the left side of the contents page is the content within the magazine, it was important that I planned this page carefully as the numbers on the front cover had to correspond with the numbers on the contents page to not confuse the reader or make it unclear. The content was split into two headings of ‘FEATURES’ and ‘EXLUSIVE THIS WEEK’ the reason I did this was because I thought it looked structured and organized. I used a red box with a double black border and then added this text to show that they were headings and then used a smaller text underneath to represent the sub headings, the reason I did this was to show the headings of every page and then underneath included a little explanation about what was on that page for the reader to decide if they wanted to read that article or not. Next to each of the sub headings I put a page number which corresponded with the front cover to let the reader know what content was on each page, when researching into contents pages I found that the magazines didn’t include every page and just included the main stories, for the page numbers I used a more informal font and also made it larger than the subheading to make it stand out more. When creating my contents page I thought it would be useful if I separated the content using a thin line to separate pages and keep it organized not to confuse the reader, by using a read line I thought this was effective and still matched the colour scheme. I included two images on my contents page, one of the main artist Steele and the other was a subsidiary image of another female artist Megan. Because Megan was a smaller artist I placed her picture at the bottom of the page and with a text box typed the page number and placed it on top of the picture to show what page that artist was allocated to. With this image I did not edit the background as I liked the effect of the brick wall however with the main image of Steele I edited out the background. When taking this image of Steele I thought I could take a photograph of him standing up to fill the page up and prevent dead space and also by taking a long shot of him standing up would mean that I would have a range of photographs to present onto my magazine pages. I edited the background of Steele photo because the background consisted of irrelevant objects that didn’t mean anything to the artist or the magazine so to make the image bolder I created a gradient effect using the main three colours (red, white and blue) this was effective and made the contents page look fuller. Next to the image I included bold text that explained what the story was about that artist and also what page number to turn to read more.

Double page spread:

For my double page spread I yet again kept a consistent colour scheme using it within the headings and the border around the page. At the top of my page is a header, the header is bold and reads 'HARRY CENA!' this is the name of the artist and by putting the name as a header attracts the readers and intrigues them into reading more into the artist. Above the header was the logo of Top Pops, after researching into music magazine double page spreads it was clear to see that the logo was always included to advertise the magazine more to the reader and also to let the reader know that the interview was exclusive to that magazine only. On the left page is text going up the page, this was effective as it gave a different twist to the page. The inspiration was from Q magazine in a Mark Ronson magazine interview:

The interview is in three columns however which has a more presentable layout, and allows me to include more content. At the back of the text are 3 boxes with a filled colour. These make the text stand out more. After adding the text I finally added the image to the double page spread, this image had to be accurate and couldn't look squished onto the page, I decided to choose the image of Steele pointing at the camera because I thought that it connected with the readers more and may make them feel more involved with the artist during his interview.

Pictures taken for this activity

I included two images on my contents page, one of the main artist Steele and the other was a subsidiary image of another female artist Megan, both of these images were edited in Photoshop to make them more effective to use for the contents page.

When creating my contents page I thought it would be useful if I separated the content using a thin line to separate pages and keep it organized not to confuse the reader, by using a read line I thought this was effective and still matched the colour scheme.

Contents page progress - 2

After creating the background for my contents page I then decided to add some detail to make the contents page look more presentable and welcoming for the readers and audience, this included me using the drawing tool to create small borders around the page, these borders consisted of the main theme colours again to represent the magazines traditional British theme.

In the middle of the top header is the heading 'contents' I used a basic font but put in bold, the reason I used a basic font was because I wanted it to stand out from the rest of the text within the page. I made the colour of 'contents' black was because I wanted it to be bold and stand out, in a smaller text size I put the issue number letting the reader know what issue it was, I done this by creating a text box and typing the content that I wanted into it. I found that on the majority of music magazine contents pages the issue numbers are shown for the readers purposes.

Underneath the header of the page is the slogan, again it has the same font as the front cover and is also placed in the same position. I decided to put the slogan on the contents page because sometimes readers remember the slogan more than the title and then associate it with the company. To make the slogan (motto) more effective I used the same technique as the borders and put lines either side to attract the reader to the slogan more.

Contents page progress - 1

To start my contents page off I started with the background of my page, I decided to create a gradient on the page because it gave an effect that made everything else on the page stand out and also made it look more inviting than a blank white background. To create a gradient I drew a box using the shape tool and then using the colour tab on the right side of the page created the fill using the three main colours of red, white and blue to create the British flag representing that the magazine is a British company and also so are the artists that feature in it.

The logo was then added in the top left corner to show that this page is still significant and related to the magazine so that it can not be mistaken for advertisement or any other form of page not related to the magazine. I think that the logo is a suitable size as its not too small that the readers can not see it but its not too big that it takes up to much of the valuable space needed for the more important content to be added.

Front Cover progress - 4

After adding  my Pug I then added the content around the image, I used the same colour scheme of red, white and blue to keep it consistent. I also used the same font because I thought it looked more presentable when the same font was used. To add the text I used the text tool and created a text box which then allowed me to type the content that was meant to be included in the cover. It was important however that the text was bold to catch the audiences and readers eye, this meant that using the words 'OMG, WOW and WIN' had to be a bigger font size because these are the slang words that catch the readers attention.

Underneath the bold words was the smaller content which consisted of explanations of what was included on those specific pages. When writing the page numbers it was essential that they corresponding with the page numbers on the double page spread and also on the contents page.

When looking at the final version of the added text I decided that the bold words of 'OMG and WOW' did not stand out as much as they could so I created a border around the text in order to make it stand out more.

Also when adding the text I had to put it on a third layer, this allowed the image of Steele to stay behind the content on the magazine but stay in front of the header, this technique was used regularly in music magazines such as NME and Q however some of the magazines put there content around the image but I thought that that style didn't suit the type of magazine I was trying to create.

Front cover progress - 3

After adding my main image it was not important that I started to get the content on the front cover because this is what would attract the reader. After researching into magazines I found that often the magazine often include a strip across the top and bottom of there magazine, this allows them to insert important messages or exclusive tips. I used the strips at the top and the bottom to write the social media that the readers can follow the magazine on and then I also used the bottom strip to write about what content is involved within the magazine.

To create these strips I used the shape tool and drew two rectangular black boxes that stretched across the magazine page, this made the page look fuller and it looked more organized, then I created a text box and added the relevant information that needed to go in them. After doing this I used the drag tool and moved them to the top and bottom of the pages. I think the black and white is effective and also matches the colours of the record player disks along with the motto which is situated above the header and logo.

When researching into music magazines the majority of them used pugs, these were used to include more information but using a different way to put the message across without it just being formal and written in black and white. To create the pug I used the shape tool and drew a circle, next I filled the circle with a light shade of blue so that it didn't clash with the royal  blue that I used for the heading, next I created a border around the circle using the colour red, by using a border helped to make the pug stand out more off the page. In the pug I included text and a page number which was clear and easy to follow for the reader. By using a pug also allowed me to fill up any dead space on the face as it was hard to fill the gap between the models head and the edge of the page because it was smaller than the rest of the gaps.

Front cover progress - 2

Next I added the main image to go onto my front cover of Top Pops magazine, when I took the image the background was still there so I had to remove it because the background was irrelevant and not related to the artist in any way. To remove the background I used the software of Photoshop, this involved me using the selecting tool and refining the edges, this here was the changes between the images:

I then placed the image onto my front cover, when doing this I arranged the image on front of the headings to show that the picture of Steele was the main artist of this weeks issue. When taking the picture and placing it onto the cover I had to take into consideration the spacing to prevent getting dead space when everything had been added onto the front cover. I used the drag tool on InDesign to make the image the full width of the page in order to make the image look less pixelated and look more full on the page.

Front cover progress -1

This here is the first stage of progress when creating my magazine in InDesign, I started by creating my header. I kept with the original logo for my magazine, by doing this meant that the logo had to be consistent  throughout the whole of my magazine. I created a text box to start with in order to create my main header, I typed the letters that I wanted and then put spaces in between the two letters on either side in order to fit the record disks in to create the o's for the name Top Pops.

To get the disks I copied and pasted them using Google images, the reason for this is because I did not have a record player disk to use and also because I wanted the image to be sharp and did not feel that I could achieve this if I took the image myself. After copying and pasting the disks into InDesign I then situated the disks into the correct positions of where I wanted them to go by doing this I used the drag tool. Next I highlighted the text on Top Pops and then changed the colours into what I wanted the text to be, when doing this I had to keep the colour scheme of the British flag consistent to make the header successful. After changing the text to the correct colours I then changed the font, to make the header successful I had to make the text bold and it had to stand out against the other text on the page, I used the font impact because it was bold and clear without any text that is confusing to the reader, I then changed the size of the text to 53 in order to make it bigger and bolder than the rest of the text on the page.

Next I used a smaller text with the same font to create the motto of the magazine, and placed it above the header I then centred the text to make the page look more organized and formal. I used black text for the motto because I think it looked effective with the black disks that's are the o's.

Analysis of my questionnare results

The questionnaire that was carried out was based on the popularity of music magazines and what was most preferred by the audiences I asked. My target audience for the questionnaire ranged from 16-43 year olds, this was helpful because it helped me to collect a variety of results, only 20% of the audience who carried out the questionnaire were not teenagers which meant that it would be most suitable for me to base my music magazine around the target audience of teenagers.

Music Genre

Overall the most popular result for the music genre with 7 people voting was for 'POP'. My research into pop music means that its a term that derives from "popular", its a genre that originally originated from the western world during the 1950's to the 1960's and still continues in todays society. I next decided to research into what pop artists teenagers are inspired by and listen to. The search results shown that:

  • Taylor Swift = Female solo artist
  • The Weekend = Male solo artist
  • One Direction = Boyband
  • Little Mix = Girl band
Types of artists

By researching the artists then helped me to decide which artist/s I would like to feature on the front of the magazine 90% of the audience chose Male artist, Female artist and Mixed band and the other 10% chose male band. As a final decision I have chosen for a Male artist to feature on the front of my magazine cover.

Mastheads

I researched into Mastheads to help me make a decision on which one was most suitable to pick for my music magazine, The Sun online paper source gave advice that the Masthead needed to be short and no longer than one word, it has to be something that catches peoples eye and its mostly important that its a name everyone can remember.
50% of the audience chose the masthead 'CHARTS' but I disliked this because my magazine wasn't about the weekly charts put about Pop Music so instead I decided to choose the name 'TOP POPS' its catchy and was inspired by the music channel top of the pops which is music based, the name also shows the audience that the magazine is about pop music.

Contents Page

40% of the audience voted for interviews with the artists to be included in the magazine, to make this successful I would have to create an interview with the male artist that I had chosen to feature on the front of my magazine cover. The interview would be written in a 1st person response and would involve questions and answers.

Conclusion of analysing music magazines

Conclusion of analysing music magazines

By doing the task of researching into music magazine covers and analysing the appearance on them I have been able to gather tips and make important notes that will help me improve the structure of my cover page including my font, pictures and colour scheme.

I have learnt that the layout and representation is important as it suits to the target audience you are hoping to buy the magazine, if you have a layout that is basic with bright colours and little text that includes lots of pictures you are targeting a younger audience. Whilst if we are looking at an older audience we will find less pictures, more text and a more basic layout showing maturity and professionalism.

By looking at the appearance of a magazine I have learnt that the key technique is to include content that will relate to the audience individually as much as possible. I have learnt that the front cover of the magazine must include the key stories, these stories normally focus on the most gripping and eye catching in order to intrigue the audience.

The contents page has to be inviting and must grip the audience just as much as the cover did. By reading other stories are in the magazine will only be quickly seen by the contest page so it is vital that pull quotes and direct quotes relate correctly to the magazine cover and the page spread that is on that topic.

When researching into different music magazine covers I discovered that depending on the type of music the style of the magazine would change including:
Font- different fonts for the style of music e.g. classical had a flow to the font and an italic text.
Colour Schemes- Rock punk magazines focussed on the colours of black and red
Pictures- pictures depended on the popularity of the artist e.g. Adele's face covered both of the double page spreads showing authority and popularity.

Analysis of my magazine cover

AS Preliminary Task
School Magazine Front Cover
Analysis and Evaluation

  Masthead
I think that the name of the magazine is appropriate because rumours is what fuels friendships and is what teenagers do most, rumours also consist of important information that goes around the school. I think that the colour scheme of the Masthead is appropriate because our main home style colours (Home style means the main colour scheme) as a school are BLACK, GOLD and I think that the masthead is a suitable size because its clear that it is the main part of the magazine amongst other pieces of text on the page. WHITE

Images
This image was personally taken by me. I asked Mrs Lewis the head teacher to stand against a white background, by asking her to do this it enabled me to edit the background easier using the software of Photoshop. I think that this is a good picture because the background has been easily removed and the picture is clear which shows that I have taken time and effort in order to make my magazine cover as successful as possible. My main image on my magazine is a picture of the Head teacher, I think the main image is an appropriate size because it shows that it is the most important picture and its what is the main focus of this magazine, The main focus on the magazine is the school results, The main picture doesn’t necessarily show what the main story focusses on but it does focus on the person who is talking about the story.

 Subsidiary images
Altogether there are 4 subsidiary images, They are all suitable sizes as the subsidiary images are not meant to be larger or more bolder that the main image on the front cover. I think that the subsidiary images have been placed in an appropriate place on the page because they don't overlap any text and they don't lead off the page. When looking at the magazine I think that the subsidiary images indicate on what will be inside the magazine e.g. the picture of the tablet (I PAD) shows what can be won inside and the pictures of the children singing and acting suggest certain clubs that pupils can participate in.

Strap Lines
Altogether on my front cover I have 4 strap lines. Each strap line clearly gives a clear indication about the contents of the magazine. This strap line quotes ‘NEW MUSIC CLUB!’ this indicates that there is a new music club taking part in our school, this may intrigue the more musical type of person. Underneath there is an ‘A*’ and ‘20%’ strap line, this shows the results from last year, this may intrigue the older age range so this explains that the magazine is made for all age ranges
Strap Lines The first strap line quotes ‘drama club Strikes again’ this gives a clear indication That inside the magazine there will be an Article on the new Drama Club. The second strap line quotes ‘win’ with a Picture of an I Pad, this will intrigue all ages As inside the magazine it gives you a chance To win a new iPad. The language on this is short and basic which Makes it easier for someone to read quickly if they are Passing by

Spelling and Punctuation
When finalising my magazine cover I checked spelling using the spell check tool, by doing this it shows that I am a committed student because I am determined to achieve good marks and not lose marks on basic spelling and punctuation.

Fonts
On the front of my magazine cover I have used two different fonts (different styles of text) The first text I used was for the masthead:

Font size: 20
Font name: Times New Roman

The second text was used for the pull quote:

Font size: 10
Font name: Abode Fan Heiti STD B

I think that both of these texts were a suitable size as it differentiates the Mast Head which is the more important part of the magazine to the pull quote which comes underneath the Mast Head showing that it will change every week according to the topic of the magazine whilst the Mast Head permanently stays the same.

Consistently of the colour scheme and strap lines

The colour scheme for my magazine has stayed consistent of the colours Black, Gold and white. This makes the magazine look successful and professional. My strap lines are appropriate for the magazine as they explain what will be in the issue. This makes it look professional and also makes it easier for the viewer to learn about what's in the magazine without having to flick through all of the pages.

 Layout of the front page
I think that the layout of the front page is clear and well organised. My main story is larger than the rest of the text and all of my pictures don’t overlap one another and neither does any of the text. There is not too much dead space (space that isn’t filled) on my front cover but there is room for improvement where the small gaps could be filled.

 Is my front page appealing?

I think that my front page is appealing because of the content that is on the front of the magazine. As an individual the drama and music clubs would interest me but for those who do not like drama and music they may find that the competition to win an IPad would interest them instead. I think that the magazine is suitable for both genders and all age groups which interprets that it would be successful in a secondary school.

Is my School Magazine Cover recognisable?
Home style: The colours of BLACK, GOLD and WHITE all represent the school colours which means that it should be automatically linked to King Henry VIII School.
Pictures: The Head teacher (Mrs Lewis) should be recognisable to both the pupils and the teachers at KHS which should encourage them to look at the magazine covers.

Three aspects that I think are successful

 1. The title of my school magazine – the reason I have chosen this as one of my three key aspects is because the title is what should grab the attention of the person passing by.

2. The front picture of Elspeth Lewis- the reason I have chosen the main image is because this was the picture that I had edited on my own using the software of Photoshop.

3. The colour Scheme- the colour scheme is individual and the reason I chose the colours is because they are the main colours of the school KHS, This makes the magazine even more recognisable to the students who study there.

Three aspects that I think I could improve on
 1. Making sure my pictures stay on the page - on the front of my magazine cover my image of the speech bubble hangs off the page, this makes it look unprofessional and its something that I need to improve on to make my magazine cover look more successful.

 2. Think of some more intriguing topics to go on the front of my magazine cover - Rugby, Sports, School Clubs that are different, News of the week, Quizzes, Birthdays this week!.

3. Less dead space on the magazine cover so it looks more full and more exciting for someone to pick up and read.

What I need to include next time:
  1. Price
  2. More images to show less dead space
  3. More topics that interest different audiences
  4. A variety of different pictures on the front of my cover
  5. Make sure all of the images stay on the page and don’t hang

My final magazine cover

This is my final front cover of the KHS magazine.

The name
As a pupil in the school rumours are normally what creates gossip in the school so i thought it would be a suitable heading. The name is bold and I think it brings a professional touch by me adding all of the information underneath the title showing what issue it is too.

Pictures
I personally took the photograph of Mrs Lewis (The head teacher), to do this I used a 30 mega pixel camera and took the picture of her against a blank wall so it would be easier to edit, I then edited out the background using the software of Photo Shop. The other pictures explains what will be inside the magazine.

What I like:
  • Main picture
  • Colour Scheme
  • Name of the Header
  • The barcode to show that I'm looking further into the professional side of editing a magazine
What I don't like:
  • The amount of space on the front cover of the magazine
  • The star that is cut off the page due to limited editing skills
  • The header colour scheme because it blends in too much with the background for the header
From practicing 'creating a magazine cover' it has enabled me to refresh myself from previous learning and to learn new skills that I can now further develop into creating my official cover for A Level.

Creating my magazine

The creation of my magazine

Firstly it was important for me to plan my magazine covers and what I inspire it to look like. When planning it was critical that I included the key elements for the front cover in order for me to make my magazine look and be successful to my captivated audience.

To help me plan my magazine cover I used the inspiration of official magazines. I used these magazines below to help me:

It was crucial that to make my magazine successful I focussed on the main parts of what teenagers would look for in a magazine.
By doing my research I focussed on:
  • Types of images
  • Types of bold texts that catches peoples eye
  • Home styles (Type of colours incorporated into my cover)

First I started off by creating a theme, this meant thinking about what the primary topic of my magazine would be. Our main topic was the School of KHS (King Henry School).

Next I thought about what software would be most suitable for me to design my front cover of my school magazine on so I used InDesign:

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, and books. InDesign can also publish content suitable for tablet devices in conjunction with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.

'The best media students always copy' is a piece of advice given to me by my Media Studies teacher so taking his advice I researched into what makes a magazine cover successful:
  1. Relating it to your style of audience - in this case my audience are teenagers ageing from 11-18
  2. Has a strong visual appeal - it should be captivating for my audience
  3. Being unique - even though I have to copy a magazine I think its important that I make my magazine something that isn't out there to make it catch people's eye.
  4. It gives an appropriate message to the audience- It should be inspirational
  5. It stands out - it has to be eye catching to the audience in order for sales to rise
